People with schizophrenia may seem like they have lost touch with reality. schizophrenia is not as common as other mental disorders; the symptoms can be very disabling.Symptoms of schizophrenia usually start between ages 16 and 30. In rare cases, children have schizophrenia too.

Symptoms are psychotic behaviors not generally seen in healthy people. People with positive symptoms may “lose touch” with some aspects of reality. Symptoms are associated with disruptions to normal emotions and behaviors.symptoms of schizophrenia are subtle, but for others, they are more severe and patients may notice changes in their memory or other aspects of thinking.Because the causes of schizophrenia are still unknown, treatments focus on eliminating the symptoms of the disease. Antipsychotics, Psychosocial Treatments, Coordinated specialty care (CSC)

Dual Diagnosis treatment is a relatively new innovation in the field of addiction recovery. The people who were experiencing symptoms of a mental health disorder — anxiety attacks, depressive episodes, delusional behaviour or mood swings — were treated separately from those who sought help for drug or alcohol abuse.

There are several types of schizophrenia.

  • Paranoid schizophrenia.
  • Hebephrenic schizophrenia
  • Catatonic schizophrenia
  • Undifferentiated schizophrenia
  • Residual schizophrenia
  • Simple schizophrenia
  • Unspecified schizophrenia

schizophrenia can often be a lifelong struggle. Schizophrenia affects an estimated 1 percent of the population. Diagnosing schizophrenia comes only after other disease have been ruled out. The largest twin study of schizophrenia put 79 percent of the risk of the condition down to genes, while another believed that genetic mutations in the brain's glial cells may be responsible for the disorder.Evidence suggests that genetic and environmental factors act together to bring about schizophrenia. The condition has an inherited element, but environmental triggers also significantly influence it.
